Taverna Grill em Funchal

We have been here a few times now and always had excellent food and service. Because it's in the 5th floor of the Carlton Hotel you won't discover it unless you stay here or someone tells you!

A good alternative within the Hotel for a Saturday night. A last-minute booking which was accommodated. A lovely cosy and dark atmosphere. The Staff: oh dear, just two, Little Miss Bossy Boots who was flitting around giving orders to the lovely young commis waiter who never said a word - I felt so sorry for him! Food: excellent smoked salmon flower, which was more than enough. Followed by filet mignon with veg - excellent steak. Dessert: Here we go! Lemon Meringue Pie with two blueberries. A lifelong favourite, but oh dear. This arrived and the middle was frozen! It was obvious they froze the pastry and middle when prepared, lemon had been forgotten to be added and at the last minute, the meringue stars piped on, finished with a blow torch. The Bill: rather than have the conversation at my table I went over to Little Miss Bossy Boots at the till. I quietly asked her if I could pay my bill, but could she remove the dessert, 10e. I then had to explain why, fair enough and was then very sarcastically asked if I was a chef - yes, I responded, she then continued with, "but are you a pasty chef!" My dear, you hit on the wrong one "yes and next time I'll show you how to make a LM Pie, or bring one with me". So rude of her. She said she'd also take off the service charge - no, I was quite happy to pay that. The upshot is; do not order the LM Pie with two blueberries and as we know, always finish any food off with an odd number!
