28/11/2024: I ordered "Lombo" - sirloin, but what I got was something not even close to the loin, very tough and no flavor. Only thing acceptable was the mushroom gravy.

11/11/2024: Staff are sooo Nice and the food is excellent. If I could give 6 stars I would. We had wonderful fresh cuttlefish and tuna. We will be back again and again on our yearly trips to Madeira

16/11/2024: It's always fabulous to go back to Franco's. Great food, great wine and great service in a lovely environment. The garlic prawns are always delicious and it's always difficult to pick our favourite main. Dessert has to be a chocolate duo.

14/10/2024: Siamo un gruppo trekking di passaggio a Madeira, abbiamo visitato diversi ristoranti, in questo, il servizio è stato celere, i camerieri molto disponibili, attenti e gentili. Ristorante molto pulito pietanze senza aglio se non gradito.

01/10/2024: This restaurant was recommended to us by long-term, regular visitors to Madeira and we were very glad they did. We visited three times for dinner. We were shown the fresh catch of the day and enjoyed a red snapper one evening and shared a lovely sea bream another evening. The fish were superbly cooked as was the succulent, medium-rare chateaubriand on a third evening. Pleasant starters (e.g. the Portuguese mussels) and the desserts (e.g. the apple pie). Nice wine, pleasant ambience and welcoming and attentive staff. Very good value. Many thanks to Jose and the team.

05/12/2024: Cidade Velha is one of the very best restaurants in the old town area. Tucked away near the fort, it is slightly off the beaten track but well worth seeking out. When we returned on Tuesday, the welcome was warm, the service was attentive and friendly, and the food was great. We had a starter of hummus and crispy fried maize, enough for two, then Chateaubriand to share, flambéed and carved tableside. Both were excellent. Recommended.

01/12/2024: The location next to the fort gives sea views but is a little more peaceful than down the street nearer the town. That says it soon fill up and when we left it was nearly full whereas the restaurants down the street were touting for business. That is evidence of the quality. We really enjoyed the prawns with cayenne pepper but there is a fair selection on the menu. We went twice and if we had been on the island longer we would probably have gone again.

10/12/2024: Casal da Penha claims to be a Michelin starred restaurant but performs as an average restaurant. For me it was the biggest disappointment of all the restaurant visits during the week in Madeira. I pointed out the shortcomings of the food but got no response from either the staff or the owner. In my opinion a restaurant must perform significantly better to earn a Michelin star. I rate Casal da Pehna 2 of 5 and recommend everyone to choose another place to eat.

Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen waren die Pommes, die leider etwas lapprig waren und nicht ganz unseren Erwartungen entsprachen. Das lokale Bier, das wir dazu genossen, war jedoch eine echte Entdeckung und sehr lecker – eine absolute Empfehlung! Ein Punkt, der uns jedoch negativ aufgefallen ist, war die Sauberkeit der Toiletten. Leider waren seit zwei Tagen die Papierhandtücher leer, was in einem Restaurant dieser Klasse nicht sein sollte. Daher müssen wir in diesem Punkt leider einen Stern abziehen. Insgesamt war es ein schöner Abend mit köstlichem Essen und exzellentem Service, und wir würden das Restaurant Capitão auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen!

17/12/2024: Wir haben das Restaurant zum wiederholten Male besucht. Wir sind jedes Mal fasziniert von dem Ambiente, dem sehr aufmerksamen, freundlichen, charmanten Service. Immer eine kleine feine Speisekarte, welche immer wieder mal geändert wird. Das Essen wieder perfekt, gute Weinempfehlung. Einfach spitze. Sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

25/11/2024: Came because of the good reviews, but unfortunately, the food wasn't to the standard we expected, quite disappointed. When we mentioned we weren't happy with the food, they seemed unable to handle criticism. Unfortunately , we won't be returning, shame.

27/10/2024: Hemos estado aquí cada vez que visitamos Madeira, ya sea para el almuerzo o la cena, no nos ha decepcionado y ahora lo llaman nuestro local. Recomendamos encarecidamente las especialidades del chef - realmente disfruto de sus platos de pescado.

30/11/2024: We usually start our vacation in Funchal, with a meal at Dona Nina. As usual, it was a great way to start a few weeks off. The location is perfect (can’t say this for everyone but…). The service is fantastic and it is nice to spend time with old friends. The food, whether you go for meat, vegetable, or fish, it will be done right. If you have a chance try Dona Nina, you will not regret it. Definitely gets the Radtel sign of approval.

03/12/2024: En ret enestående oplevelse. Usædvanlig opmærksom og personlig betjening. Maden var udsøgt og der var kælet for den. Vi fik Chateaubriand som var perfekt tilberedt. Vi sad ved siden af det bord hvor de tilberedte crepes suzette og det var en veritabelt show, så det endte med at vi måtte afslutte måltidet med det. Her kommer vi igen.

19/11/2024: Muy buena comida en un entorno agradable. Trató aquí como cerca de nuestro hotel y no fue decepcionado. Buena comida de calidad y buen tamaño de porción.

01/11/2024: A melhor refeição de peixe que fiz na ilha. O arroz de tamboril com gambas estava fantástico. Recomendo. A simpatia dos funcionários também merece destaque.

04/12/2024: Fuimos a cenar a este restaurante como lo habíamos disfrutado en años anteriores. Solo pedí agua, no vino esta vez. Habíamos tenido un almuerzo tardío, así que no queríamos un entrante. El camarero fue bastante agresivo tratando de que pidiéramos entrantes, finalmente pedimos algunas aceitunas y una porción de pan de ajo. Ambos llegaron rápido y estaban sabrosos. Para la red me decanté por rodaballo con marisco, compañero optó por pollo con salsa picante. De nuevo el camarero estaba realmente tratando de vender guarniciones y era un poco irritante. Pedimos unas patatas salteadas y una ensalada para compartir. El rodaballo estaba bien, para ser honesto no estoy convencido de que fuera rodaballo, pero era un pescado blanco sabroso en una salsa agradable. El marisco que lo acompañaba resultó ser una almeja, un mejillón y tres pequeños trozos de calamar. El pollo de mis compañeros se coció en el hueso, muy húmedo y tierno. Pero sólo era pollo a la parrilla. La salsa picante era solo un poco de salsa peri peri fría puesta en un plato de vidrio pequeño al lado del plato. La comida estaba bien, el servicio de otros camareros bien, y la factura era muy razonable en 43 euros. Pero no estoy seguro de volver.

05/11/2024: Personal amable y acogedor a nuestra llegada. Excelente variedad de pescado en el menú Muy recomendable para mariscos y pescados un poco decepcionados con el filete de carne Vista de la puesta del sol estupenda sobre la bahía desde el restaurante

07/10/2024: A expectativa era grande, face às sugestões que recebemos. Talvez por isso, a desilusão tenha sido maior. Restaurante agradável, sem deslumbrar, , bem localizado, com pessoal simpático e disponível. Boa carta de vinhos variada. Entradas de cortesia da casa, pastéis não sabemos bem de quê, com pimento no recheio e uma maionese de compra, também com pimentos. Bolo do caco com manteiga de alho que é sempre bom. Pedimos 2 sopas de peixe. Trazia bastante peixe, mas pouco variada, com pedaços de pimento, cebola e batata e um tempero (seria açafrão? ) que conferia um gosto adocicado, perdendo-se o sabor a amar. Tranches de espada com molho de vinha de alhos e outro de maracujá, acompanhado de legumes, mal cozidos e demasiado "al dente", batata doce e arroz (invariavelmente) com pimentos. Sobremesas não comemos pois escolhemos duas da carta que não estavam disponíveis cafés e 74€ de conta. Experiência desanimadora . Talvez um dia possamos voltar
