17/10/2024: What a friendly restaurant this is and a very pleasing and relaxing place to enjoy a great meal. We had traditional prawn cocktail starters, followed by two varieties of steak on offer. All the dishes looked good, tasted superb and were very filling. No room for sweet sadly. The service was great, the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. All in all this was a very enjoyable dining experience. The restaurant was full both inside and out. We were there when the restauarant opened and managed to bag the last available table later on at 19.30. Unless you want to eat early I think that booking is recommended. Sadly this was our last evening meal of our holiday but we will definitely be back to Jota Lita on out next trip. Very definitely one not to miss. Highly recommended.

17/10/2024: Bords do Cais liegt am Hafen, man sitzt schön am Hafen und kann seinen Fisch an der Theke aussuchen. Sicher bekommt man das Essen in. Portugal auch günstiger, aber die Lage ist schön. Die Kellner sind freundlich und alles stimmt.

11/09/2024: Two of us had a great meal here on a Tuesday evening in September. We were sat outside on the terrace, which has great views, but does mean there’s an evening breeze so we were glad of the blankets the staff provided. The villa owners where we were staying had recommended O Algar as they have been coming for many years and it was clear that many of the diners were the same - we overheard one saying she had first visited in the 1990’s. Our main were the sole and prawn kebabs - both very good, with the waiter (one of the two sons of the owners) expertly filleting the sole for me. As per our hosts, we had a bottle of white Cartuxa wine - Chablis-like and a great match. Reservations seemed a must - several parties were turned away whilst we were there. Prawn cocktail starter was trip back to the Berni Inns of my youth, but the prawns were three times the size and considerably fresher. A number of diners had clearly booked for repeat visits and we could understand why. Service was very good and friendly - we overheard one of the sons describing his time in Bristol and London studying, which helped explain the very fluent English.

05/10/2024: So, just to be clear, I'll state this up front; hands down, the best fish I have ever eaten in an Algarvian restaurant. Ever. So much so, I went back the following night and did it all again. The restaurant is owned by the Portuguese chef and his English wife. This is a chef who really knows what he's doing and buys fresh from the fish market in nearby Portimão daily. Fish is sold by the kilo and each plate is accompanied by vegetables or salad. However, it does mean that one fish is often too much for one person so if you want to experience the best fish, it might be wise to agree on which fish you'd agree to share as he'll only cook a whole fish, not half of one as that could compromise the natural flavours. I was solo, so the only complete fish I could have was Linguado (lemon sole) but I am glad I did because I'd never tasted fish so good. An indication of price by the kilo is Sea Bass and Sea Bream around €55 per kilo and Lemon Sole at €65 per kilo. My fish weighed in at €35 and that was more than enough for one person. I also had home-made vegetable soup to start and an Algarvian delicacy, Carob, Almond and Fig tart to finish, along with a medronho and a expresso coffee. To accompany the fish I had a couple of glasses of the restaurant's own-label house white wine. The bill came to €71 which, considering the outstanding fare, I thought was reasonable. Service is polite and friendly but not in-your-face, which is thoughtful. One thing I noticed was how quickly the restaurant filled up after evening opening - and stayed full almost the whole night. The head waiter was turning away people without a booking and from what I saw over two consecutive nights, booking in advance is essential. It's not a big place; it'll seat around 30 people max. I've raved on about fish here, but meat and vegetarian dishes are also available and they also have a lunch menu. The only problem you could possibly have with this restaurant is being able to get an evening reservation for exactly when you want it.

03/10/2024: For my husband and I this is one of the best restaurants in Ferragudo. We try and visit at least twice during our holiday to Ferragudo, our 8th time. They have a good varied menu, but we like the section where they bring you the very fresh fish on a platter to choose from, Seabsss, Bream, Snapper, Turbot etc. they weigh your choice of fish and tell you the cost, if you are happy with that then it is bbq grilled to perfection. It is truly delicious. They also have a good dessert selection too. Great service and very friendly. You have got to go there 5*

09/10/2024: Mooie en aangename plaats om te zitten, maar het eten was slechts van gemiddelde kwaliteit en bereiding voor Portugal en véél te duur voor wat het was. De volgende dag hebben we veel lekkerdere visgerechten gegeten voor slechts de helft van de prijs in een visrestaurant waar het ook leuk was om te zitten en waar eveneens toeristen kwamen.

09/10/2024: This was a fabulous lunch experience! You choose your fish and pay by the kg. They bring you the fish to get your approval before they filet and grill it. We were very appreciative that the manager asked if we needed some help when the fish was presented… as we would not have had a clue as to how to separate it from the bone and discard the excess… The fish was the most delicious I’ve ever had! We chose the Red Snapper!

Somos da França e procuramos um lugar não muito turístico, e ficamos felizes em encontrar esta joia escondida com uma ótima atmosfera. Tivemos uma cataplana deliciosa e passamos momentos maravilhosos. A equipe fala inglês e alguns falam francês.

25/09/2024: O local é agradável, a comida era boa e fresca, o atendimento foi nota 10. Fácil de estacionar por perto. Afastado da área de maior movimento, ainda assim fácil de chegar se estiver de carro.

22/09/2024: We visited on a Wednesday night having booked a table in advance. I would recommend booking as the restaurant was full. Great selection on the menu, including specials of fresh fish and meat which will be presented to you. The service was excellent and the waiters very attentive. The food was fresh, well cooked and generously portioned. We enjoyed fresh fish which was filleted at the table, starters, a bottle of wine and glasses of port for around £120 (for 2 people). Definitely recommend to those staying in the area and would return!

13/10/2024: We had our wedding at this perfect venue on 28.09.24. We couldn’t have done it without the help of the amazing wedding co ordinator- Kirsten. So knowledgable of local vendors, supportive of every idea, our go to throughout the whole process. We had the bbq buffet our wedding guests are still saying now ‘the best wedding food’ they’ve ever had. The bar /restaurant staff are second to none, amazing service with a smile. Thank you Lighthouse grill & bar.

30/08/2024: This restaurant was a real find! Most food was cooked in an outdoor barbecue and was all fresh, delicious and generously portioned and the staff could not have been more helpful or efficient. We will certainly be back!

04/04/2024: Calixtos é um dos meus restaurantes preferidos no Algarve, e vamos todos os anos. Porém ouvi da minha família que nas últimas vezes que jantaram (4 vezes para ser mais preciso) sempre havia algo errado: ou você fica sem vários ingredientes e pratos ou cobra por coisas que eles nunca pediram. Isso fez com que eles nunca mais quisessem voltar, infelizmente. Espero que isso melhore, pois a comida é incrível e o ambiente também. É uma pena, o Calixtos sempre esteve na nossa lista de jantares de verão.

04/11/2024: Excellent service with fantastic food. The staff were very helpful in their recommendations of wine to go with our fish. We are on our honeymoon so were after romantic.The setting was absolutely perfect with a perfect meal and perfect service

03/11/2024: Loved this beach bar, and the beach. Used the snack bar for food a couple of times, and lots of drink! Ate in the restaurant a couple of times for lunch. The seafood dishes are simple and great value for money. The kids loved the burgers and fish fingers. The staff were very good, and always found room for our group of 11. Agree with a recent comment that the toilets could be better, but there is no control over them and they are used a lot by the beach goers.

13/09/2024: Restaurante de comida portuguesa, poco turístico y con buenos precios. Comimos el menú de sardinas y te iban poniendo todas las sardinas que querías recién asadas y estaban buenísimas. El personal muy amable y atento (menos mal que no hicimos caso a las opiniones negativas).

20/08/2024: Fuimos un grupo de 4 amigos a las 8:30 de la tarde y cierra a las 10 (no admite reserva), no nos dio de cenar, es más nos echó el hombre que estaba con el chico de la parrilla (imaginamos que es el dueño) con malas formas tanto a nosotros como a dos grupos que venían detrás, el mismo hombre tuvo un trato muy discriminatorio hacia los extranjeros que estábamos, un sitio para no volver, espero que nunca tenga necesidad y se tenga que ver vendiendo sus sardinas a los turistas por qué se muere de hambre con esas formas!!
