Taberna da Poncha em Ribeira Brava

22/12/2024: A welcome respite from the rain while checking whether the road up to the Lombo do mouro was open (apparently not) and whether any other levada routes were open (also apparently not) and whether there were any other local walks we could do (apparently best not considered as the risk of rockfall, hail and snow was very great). Notwithstanding these mournful predictions the café has charm and (one imagines if the weather clears) beautiful views. The cake was homemade and delicious and the galao and Chinesa coffees were very good and we were educated in the ordering of more elusive Madeiran coffee specialties such as the Cortado (like a caffè corretto). Despite the grim prognostications we walked one levada (Rabaças) ignored a closure sign and continued to the mouth of the second tunnel then up a path to the Casa Lombo do Mouro and down the levada of the same name back home.

06/10/2024: Sehr schöne Gegend. Wandern und dann dort einkehren. Poncha trinken oder/ und lecker essen. Alles geht. Der Wirt ist sehr freundlich.
