Solar o Rei dos Frangos em Ponta Delgada

30/08/2024: Although slightly up the east end of town, further out on the same road that houses Michael’s Restaurant, this one is well worth the extra distance. A big benefit with this one is that they specialise in Sea Food rice and Sea food stew and unlike everywhere else where it is a minimum of 2 people here you can get them for one person for a small premium ( 27.5euro for 1pxe and 50euro for 2pxe). I am very fond of a Portuguese sea food rice and this was a particularly good one, as was the spare ribs my partner went for. Put together with a very good house red and good service levels this was a very good dining experience. The other advantage is that you get the feel that you are in a traditional local Azorean restaurant, something which is missing in Michael’s down the road. Cannot comment for other times of the year, but in high season, and especially August, booking is essential as this one is very popular with the Portuguese families who holiday on the island at that time.

26/08/2024: My wife and I really enjoyed the seafood rice dish that was prepared for two people. Deliciously prepared and a nice portion of seafood for a couple to share. The service was good as well.
