Rotas da Ilha Verde em Ponta Delgada

In this charming and cozy spot on a quiet street, we were delighted by the scrumptious dishes they served. We leaned on the waiter’s expertise to choose the starter and the main, as well as the wine and we were pleased by the rich flavors and contrasts. We shared a seitan appetizer with bolo levado, which we loved, and then shared the beet risotto with mushroom and there were unexpected tastes and nice texture contrasts. Finished with an unusual banana dessert, which was rich and bursting with sweetness and flavors. I wish this restaurant was in my neighborhood!! The staff was kind and helpful, and we appreciated their patience after we missed the time for the reservation. I didn’t realize the answer to the reservation request would come via WhatsApp, which I never look at and doesn’t send me notifications, so it was only because I decided to call as a last ditch try, I learned we did indeed have a reservation! NOTE to others: check WhatsApp for response to reservation request!!

This place is located on a narrow street a few blocks up from the cathedral. The staff is very serious about being prompt for your reservation- if you are 15 min late, you lose your reservation to walk ins. Our starter was the stuffed eggplant with cheese which was delicious. We zucchini cannelloni and the seitan burger (vegan) for entrees. Both were good, but I preferred the “burger” which was served without bread. The bill with a bottle of wine and taxes came to €70.
