Fradinho em Mafra

Great place that we stumbled into when we made a quick trip on a Sunday to Mafra to visit the library at the palace. First of all at most casual service places in Portugal, you seem to need to take a number and so it is at the establishment. We asked the counter service staff to recommend their specialties and he gave us a fradinho - it is a delicious pastry made with white beans, almonds and egg custard. I loved it more than the pastel de nata that Lisbon is so famous for that I bought a box of six to take home. They have them boxed and ready to go! Definitely stop in at this gem if you are in Mafra!
