Clearly deserving of the Michelin 2-star rating, this is an experience. Imaginative treatment of ingredients, clever presentation, and amazing service. While you can order ala carte, there are two tasting menus: Costa Acosta (seafood) and Alma (traditional). There are many cross over dishes and they will accommodate variations due to allergies/preferences. Eat “cheap” elsewhere so you can indulge in this “not cheap” experience.

Food was very good and larger portions than I expected for a tasting menu. The service team serving us was outstanding, however, it was very difficult to hear the person responsible for our experience explain each dish as it was so loud in the area we were dining, she spoke too fast and there was a lot to take in so I had to ask her to repeat things frequently. There was a group of six behind us and tables close to us on each side. The whole service team was rushing around so much to care for guests and in the process the experience didn’t feel special and we didn’t feel special. The food was very good quality but the overall dining “experience” didn’t surprise or delight as much as I hoped, other than the sheer number of courses including two unexpected muse bouche courses. It was a nice touch that we received a small envelope at the end of the meal that contained the menus. I had the Alma tasting and my spouse had the Costa tasting menu. Sone courses were the same for both while differed. We both felt the food was very good but the overall experience didn’t match the price. And how really unfortunate, that I had to track down the person responsible for our experience (our waitress) about getting sone toilet paper for the ladies room. These are the small points that make you shake your head when spending so much on a meal.

A Gina

01/11/2024: The restaurant is off the beaten track ie you do wonder where the signs are leading you to! It is however very popular - so you know it has something going for it. We ate there twice as it was a short walk from the hotel Maxime. The first time I shared the sea bass with a friend - it was very good. The next visit we has a prawn starter - again I loved it. Would recommend the fish easily. My steak was good but not memorable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
20/10/2024: The hotel concierge recommended this place. It was 5 minutes from the hotel, but off the main drag. The food was excellent. We really enjoyed the clams in broth. Both the chicken and the cod were very tasty. The waitress was lovely; so friendly and helpful.

Restaurante Bastardo

26/10/2024: The octopus croquettes were great, the turbot very tasty and just the right portions and the dessert tart was spectacular. Staff really nice and attentive. A lovely way to finish my trip to Lisbon
12/10/2024: We had a tour that got thru about 2 in the afternoon. We had passed by this place earlier and decided to come back here for a sit down lunch. It was very comfortable on this slightly muggy day. We had a window booth with nice seating. The bathrooms are downstairs (like a lot of street level restaurants). I had the octopus croquettes and my wife had the tiger prawn risotto. Both were very tasty and well presented. We each also had a side salad that was loaded with greens and tomatoes etc. It is one of the more pricey places but it is worth it !!
