18/08/2024: Wenige Touristen nur einheimische, vernünftige Preise und ausgezeichnete Küche. Einfach empfehlenswert, geeignet für alle die gute Portugiesisches Essen mögen. Ist ein wenig laut da Portugiesen sich halt entsprechend laut unterhalten.

27/10/2024: Das Service-Team und das essen waren super - wir hatten Dorade und Octopus und beides war super lecker und wurde mit Kartoffeln und Salat serviert. Besonders möchten wir Janana aus Nepal herforheben: Ihr service war super klasse und wir kommen bestimmt wieder. Beste Grüße aus Deutschland, Christiane & Sybille

10/10/2024: Returning again with a warm welcome. Lovely suitable table which we had booked in person previously. Thank you. The Seafood Cream soup excellent and we had the nights ‘Special’ Amberjack fish. Simply grilled with a lavish variety of vegetables and salad with excellent friendly service. ‘Cracking’ bottle of House so a very enjoyable evening thank you again.

08/10/2024: Our evening was fantastic in every way. The meal was delicious and a good selection was offered on the menu. The squid appetizer and the avocado & shrimp were very nice. The espada entree and the filet of beef were outstanding. Our waitress was spectacular! She was personable, attentive and anticipated needs before we knew the ourselves. The owner came by the table a couple of times and clearly has a passion for his business. He wanted to make sure everything was perfect and that we enjoyed all aspects of our evening. He even went as far to have arranged for me to have some of the small Madeira wine glasses. I cannot post enough glowing statements about this restaurant. A true gem which deserves their own constellation made from Michelin stars.

03/10/2024: E a segunda vez que cá vimos e é sempre uma excelente opção. Ficamos pelas entradas ir partilhamos com muito sabor:stratiaccela, peixe aranha, atum afumado, cogumelo leão. Tudo maravilhoso. A única coisa a melhorar é a temperatura do vinho tinto Autocarro: não pode está tão quente! A repetir sem dúvida.

02/10/2024: Really looking forward to our dinner here, as this place came highly recommended and it’s location is lovely. Unfortunately, the service, menu, quality of food and taste failed to live up to our expectations. We found several other restaurants nearby which served incredible dishes using fresh, quality local ingredients full of flavour…and were much better value.

11/09/2024: Two of us had a great meal here on a Tuesday evening in September. We were sat outside on the terrace, which has great views, but does mean there’s an evening breeze so we were glad of the blankets the staff provided. The villa owners where we were staying had recommended O Algar as they have been coming for many years and it was clear that many of the diners were the same - we overheard one saying she had first visited in the 1990’s. Our main were the sole and prawn kebabs - both very good, with the waiter (one of the two sons of the owners) expertly filleting the sole for me. As per our hosts, we had a bottle of white Cartuxa wine - Chablis-like and a great match. Reservations seemed a must - several parties were turned away whilst we were there. Prawn cocktail starter was trip back to the Berni Inns of my youth, but the prawns were three times the size and considerably fresher. A number of diners had clearly booked for repeat visits and we could understand why. Service was very good and friendly - we overheard one of the sons describing his time in Bristol and London studying, which helped explain the very fluent English.

10/11/2024: They don’t answer the phone to take bookings. They don’t reply to e mails. Can just turn up on the day and take pot luck. Not good enough You will appreciate our custom in the winter. Not that we will go there ever again. Feel totally let down.

04/11/2024: It’s always difficult when you go to a restaurant for the first time to know whether you have chosen a dish which is ‘representative’ of what the restaurant can do. Such is the dilemma with Izzy’s because the experience was exceptional but the food we chose was distinctly average. This bears explanation, so let’s start with the experience, which was really very good. The restaurant sits adjacent to the beach, it absorbs the laid back vibe you might expect from the natural surroundings. The pounding of waves is part of the soundtrack of the dining experience. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the beach bar feel is reflected in the furnishings and decor. On this mildly wet and dark November evening the place was also warm and cosy. The atmosphere is first class, and there is a comforting hubbub of conversation and laughter which seems to synchronise with the crashing of the waves. So, as I said, as an experience, really very good. We’ve eaten well on this holiday, so looking at the menu the selection of curries provided a welcome diversion from the fare offered by the fish restaurants in the area. However, these were not good curries. My wife ordered the chicken curry and I ordered the monkfish curry. The first inkling we had that maybe curries are not the ‘thing’ here is that the poppodums, which came with our meals were draped over the food…a great way to get the steam off the food to make your poppodums soggy. They were too, absolutely horrible. The curries came with plain rice, which was fine, but the curry sauce was bland, and like something you might get in a coronation chicken sandwich. The chicken and monkfish were themselves ok, but the curry sauce had not penetrated, making for rather a poor dish really. Credit where it is due though, the mango chutney tasted homemade, and is amongst the freshest and tastiest I have ever had…so not all bad then! So to pudding. Try the sorbet with vodka! Served with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of lime, this was a subtle and engaging way to finish the meal…so simple and yet very good. My wife had the chocolate ice cream which was also very good. So back to the original dilemma, the experience was great, and I am reluctant to overly criticise the food on the basis of what we chose, because maybe…just maybe, they do other food items on the menu much better.

31/03/2024: Fomos servidos com muita simpatia e bebemos um Vinho Verde muito saboroso seguindo uma recomendação. A comida também era boa.

25/03/2024: Pagámos 42€ por uma espade com banana, bife, boco do caco, poncho e 1L de cerveja. Porções muito grandes, restaurante na rua. Saboroso.

08/09/2024: extraordinário! Ontem comemos camarão com mel e gengibre, rosbife, ceviche de salmão e tártaro de salmão. TUDO incrivelmente delicioso e ótimo atendimento!! Gabriel Rose agradece ADENDO: Ótima comida de alta qualidade novamente ontem à noite! É inacreditável a relação preço-desempenho que você pode encontrar lá Ps: estive lá novamente hoje, qualidade consistentemente alta!!! Estaremos de volta!!!

12/10/2024: The food was absolutely 1st class, such attention to the presentation, tiny edible flowers . Steak Tornedos was melt in the mouth with a potato and spinach rosti and the cod on a bed of purple sweet potato puree with clams was delicately delicious. Lovely staff who kept the table for us, due to heavy rain we were delayed by 15 mins.

02/10/2024: Fantástico!!! O acolhimento, a simpatia, o espaço e a comida!!! O pão, as amêijoas, o peixe-galo acompanhado por arroz de tomate e açorda e as sobremesas!!! Serviço rápido e eficiente! Ficamos na esplanada, virados para a baia. Melhor era impossível!!!

28/03/2024: Que mimo. Uma dica absoluta, uma instituição local que você absolutamente precisa visitar. Rui recebe os seus hóspedes de uma forma muito simpática e acolhe-os de uma forma muito simpática e você se sente imediatamente em casa. O peixe ou o bife são fritos ao ar livre no forno a lenha, uma delícia e acompanhados pelo delicioso vinho da casa do próprio Rui. Tudo perfeito.

17/03/2024: Peixe excelente! Empregados super simpáticos, preços justos face à qualidade apresentada. Ambiente tipico de restaurante de peixe assado, algo ruidoso e as mesas muito perto umas das outras. Um reparo, devem mellhorar a extração do fumo da zona do grelhador de forma a não ser incomodativo na esplanada ( por vezes).
