Windmill - Adults Only em Albufeira

Had tried to get here last year but couldn’t get a table , so very happy we managed to get booked this year, unfortunately the weather was against us last Friday night , got there in a taxi as it was torrential rain, on arrival greeted by nice young couple who showed us to our table , once seated we could feel that there was a problem with water ingress onto our table but they tried their best to Mop it up , so onto the food . Starter was nice egg yolk with peas very tasty but only luke warm , my main of Lamb would have been sensational if agin was not luke warm, the problem is I think by the time the meals are traversed from kitchen to main dinning area the food cools down , more so on a terrible night weather wise, the wine pairing for us wasn’t as we would have expected and the price for the wine pairing was €35 per head , not worth it imo. Over all the windmill is a very one off place to experience but they need to up their game a bit regarding cold plates, and cost of wines if they want to get that top spot as the Dom Carlos did for many years our favourite place in Albuferia .

This review concerns the dining experience in the windmill itself. We arrived on a terribly wet night, as the Algarve experienced a great deal of, much needed, rain. So, it was dark and rainy as we made our way up thr narrow, stone, stairs of the windmill. Upstairs is very small, seating only about 11 people. Service here is remarkable as the staff have to cross the patio from the kitchen and climb the narrow stairs. We had the wine pairing option, a 3 course meal with appropriate wines. The menu is on a tablet, so I can't recall the descriptions and I can't do it justice- we had the various options explained to us and we selected our courses: 2 chose scallops, 2 chose confit egg yolk with chorizo. Breads and amuse bouche were also served with homemade butter. Starters were stunning. Our mains were 3 Magret of duck with potato puree and beautiful tender duck, 1 chose the sea bass with clams. Again, remarkable food. Dessert was either a take on Pastel del Nata with coffee ice cream or a Mandarin Orange mousse/sorbet, both were fabulous. The chosen wines were also beautiful. This is a remarkable dining experience and well worth the, not inconsiderable, price. It's a real treat.
