09/09/2024: This was our third visit to Silves in 3 years, 21,22 and this year, we make a bee-line for Atelie47 because of the food and the ridiculously-inexpensive wine, in 21 and 22 it was €1.75 a glass but now it’s €3, it’s still inexpensive but even the €5 glass you are supporting local vineyards etc. we ate mixed tapas which was 2 types of chorizo and local cheese olives and bread, followed by octopus and potatoes with paprika and then black pork ( a strange mixture of cold pickled cauliflower, gurkin chips and garlic olives, all washed down with the customary half litre of alentejo branco. About €36 so you can’t argue. The place is hammered from 12 till 2.30 then it empties, on the corner opposite the town gate ( pictured). If you go to Silves by bus from Albufeira like us you take the No.17 bus, platform 9 from the bus station, it’s currently €10.80 return each and drops you at the kingfisher mural near LIDL. The bus back is directly opposite but it is always late but do t worry it will come , our driver was so nice he even dropped us outside the Alagomare Hotel after stopping at Albufeira bus station, what a bloke. Silves is very Portuguese, no idiots, loads of locals and great food, a big shout out must go to the wonderful guy who owns Alentejo com pao further on before the fountains, a proper bakery and a fabulous selection of Alentejo wines. There’s a last but back to Albufeira at 6.30pm, takes 45 minutes.
