My wife and I took a side trip to Lagoa de Obidos on Sunday, 17 Dec. After a brief walk along the lake shore, we looked for a place for lunch. We picked Patio d'Lagoa because it looked like a casual place with outdoor seating - important because we were traveling with our dog. It was an excellent, lucky choice!
Our waiter was a friendly young man with a big smile. He brought water for our dog and suggested several things on their menu - fish soup, which we'd never had and he said was excellent, with a bit of spice, and fried shrimp with fries and salad. We took his suggestions.
The soup was delicious. Just hot enough. The broth was rich, with a hint of spice. It had small bits of fish throughout. It set a high bar for any future bowl of fish soup.
The fried shrimp were actually what we'd call grilled or sauteed in garlic and butter. These were large shrimp - a couple bites in each one. The waiter (we're sorry we forgot to ask his name) had suggested there was enough to share. He was right - there were plenty of shrimp for both of us. The fries were hot and the salad was fresh lettuce, tomatoes, shredded carrots and onions with a light oil and vinegar dressing.
The shrimp was served to us by the chef or owner (maybe both) who pulled up an extra table to spread everything out. He told us that if we needed more bread or fries or salad to "just ask me".
A couple little touches that we haven't seen in other Portuguese restaurants: The plates for our meal had been heated and the chef/owner brought us several extra napkins. It all added up to making us feel welcome and well cared for.
After our meal, the waiter brought out a bottle of Ginja with two small chocolate cups and three little cookies. We figured this was a treat for tourists, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
Our meal was €33.90. This is a gem of a place. There were plenty of local residents in and out while we were there. If this were in our neighborhood, we'd be regulars.

Food and service was great! Annoying fly flying around us. Otherwise, highly recommended.
Thanks!
