O Batel em Aveiro

29/09/2024: I recently had the good fortune to be in Aveiro for work and my colleagues and I were brought to this restaurant, Cais do Pescado, for a set menu, for which the choice was either cod or octopus. This limited choice was simply due to the size of our group (we were 12 people) and the convenience of our hosts. Our one vegetarian and our one non-gluten / non-dairy diners were equally well catered for. Despite the seemingly restricted choice, this meal was the absolute best meal of our whole week in Portugal. I don’t think I have ever had such delicious octopus before — cooked simply and with plain accompaniments, it was outstanding. I would happily have the same again. Apparently the cod was equally superb. The selection of tasty starters and wines were also delicious.

25/09/2024: 4 of us for dinner. Sat inside upstairs - ambiance was very nice. Found a nice white wine - Foz Torto from the Douro Region to pair with our Sea food platter. Presentation was amazing and the prawns, crab and assorted shell fish were very tasty. The place filled up very fast with locals and tourists so get there early. We were very impressed with the waiter on the street encouraging us to come in. He explained the menu & wine selections in a fun, humorous way - he sold us - I wish I could recall his name. Definitely Employee of the Month!!
